Transportation, storage and safety

Subproject 2

Logistics alternatives and scenarios for the transportation and storage of ammonia are being investigated and compared. Ammonia is, for example, imported by sea-going vessel via a seaport and then transported to regional storage locations by inland waterway vessel or rail tank car. From there, it is distributed to customers in the area. Different demand scenarios must be taken into account here. The scenarios are mapped as layers of different industries; e.g. the metal processing industry, the paper industry, the glass and ceramics industry, etc. In addition to scenario creation and scenario analysis, norms and technical standards that must be adhered to when transporting and storing ammonia also play an important role.
